The Sound of Safety

December 06, 2024

Staying safe in the mountains demands sound.

Being heard can keep you safe. Whether skiing as a group in the backcountry, as a family in the resort, or while training with a coach, every situation and type of skiing on the mountain is full of times where clear and easy communication would make the whole experience both more enjoyable and safer. And in so many of these situations, clear sound is the key to successful communication.

But being heard on the mountainside is not always easy. Yet in countless situations, being heard can quickly become the thing that needs to be easiest.

And that is exactly what the Obex Connect is designed to do. Working to enable the whole group to talk to each other at the same time, the Connect Headset takes a new approach to communication.

For POC, integrating technology into products is nothing new. There are clear, real-world benefits to utilising technologies to enhance your safety in new ways. Earlier introductions like Mips and NFC Medical ID were first seen in POC helmets, and the benefits are proven.

Now, we have partnered with the audio technology experts Harman Kardon to introduce audio technologies into completely new environments, all to enable better communication in the mountains, helping to improve your safety.

The helmet integrates a Mesh communication system, similar to that used in some motorcycle helmets, to make it easy for whole groups to talk to one another, all at the same time.

While the concept of a mesh is not entirely new, the way the technology has been used in the new Obex Connect headset is something that has not been seen before. It is set up to ensure that it is as easy as possible for groups to stay connected, and easily communicate with one another when on the mountainside, regardless of the conditions.

Whether used with or without the accompanying app, the headset makes it possible for up to 8 people to talk to each other, all at once. So everyone gets the message, straight away.

With possibilities for both public and private groups, you can talk to those in your group, or those within range, which can be vital for relaying important information to those who need to know, quickly. But the Mesh also makes it easier to communicate about every aspect of what is going on, so you can easily make vital decisions about when to stop for snacks, or which piste to take.

The Obex Connect is for every mountain user, as when everyone can hear what is being said, no matter where you are on the mountain, you can all stay safer together.
