How do you deal with adversity?

I focus on controlling the things I can control because, ultimately, that is the best way to overcome a challenging situation. I remind myself that life is not measured by how many times we fall, but by how we get back up and keep going. By pushing forward, I choose to be stronger than anything life throws at me.

What do you give up in your everyday life to live your dream?

I give up seeing my friends, family, and boyfriend. They all still live in the States, and it’s a big sacrifice to be apart from them.

Is there someone who has been particularly important to you in your career?

My former coach Mike Sayers has been more influential than anyone. He coached me from when I was an amateur all the way through to my first World Tour victories and World Championships. He prepared me not only for the physical demands of the sport but also for the emotional challenges and sacrifices I would endure.

When you're completely exhausted, what keeps you going?

When I am in the middle of a hard effort, I visualize myself achieving my goals, which gives me extra motivation. In those moments, the concept of failing, losing, or giving up doesn’t even enter my consciousness. I am so engrossed in thoughts and visions of achieving my goal that it’s all I think about. Additionally, there is an element of genuine curiosity about myself. I love discovering my limits, and that motivates me to push my hardest.
